Biological function summary
FTSJ3 functions as an rRNA methyltransferase that is important for the maintenance of mitochondrial ribosome stability. It is a component of the mitoribosome complex which is responsible for mitochondrial protein synthesis. This activity is essential for cellular energy production as it directly affects the translation of mitochondrial-encoded genes required for oxidative phosphorylation.
Pathways
FTSJ3 plays a role in mitochondrial gene expression pathways and its activity affects the oxidative phosphorylation pathway a fundamental process for ATP production. This protein works alongside related proteins like METTL12 which has complementary roles in RNA modification ensuring the stability and efficiency of mitochondrial translation machinery.
