Supplementary information

FTSJD2 also known as Fatty Acid Synthase Inhibitor Domain-Containing Protein is a target expressed in a variety of human tissues. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 60 kDa. The main function of FTSJD2 is to catalyze methylation reactions impacting RNA processing by adding methyl groups to specific adenine residues. This modification affects RNA stability and function playing a direct role in cellular gene expression control.
Biological function summary

The FTSJD2 protein participates in RNA methylation processes and forms part of larger protein complexes involved in RNA modification. These complexes help facilitate accurate and efficient gene expression regulation across different stages of cell growth and division. The participation of FTSJD2 in these complexes emphasizes its role in modulating many cellular activities that depend on RNA methylation.

Pathways

FTSJD2 is an integral player in the RNA modification and stability pathways. These pathways are significant for cellular responses to stress and maintaining genomic integrity. FTSJD2 associates with proteins like METTL3 and ALKBH5 which assist in the dynamic control of RNA methylation. This interaction illustrates the pathway's complexity allowing cellular adaptation and robustness against various stimuli.

FTSJD2 alterations can link to cancers and neurological disorders. In oncology changes in FTSJD2 expression might disrupt normal RNA processes contributing to tumorigenesis. For neurological diseases its role in RNA processing is important for neuron function implicating FTSJD2 dysfunction in disorders like Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown connections between FTSJD2 and proteins such as FTO in these pathological conditions suggesting avenues for therapeutic intervention.

Target data

S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase that mediates mRNA cap1 2'-O-ribose methylation to the 5'-cap structure of mRNAs. Methylates the ribose of the first nucleotide of a m(7)GpppG-capped mRNA and small nuclear RNA (snRNA) to produce m(7)GpppRm (cap1). Displays a preference for cap0 transcripts. Cap1 modification is linked to higher levels of translation. May be involved in the interferon response pathway.
