Biological function summary
The FUZ protein participates in complex processes involved in cellular organization and signal transduction. FUZ acts within the cytoskeletal network influencing the cytoskeleton dynamics necessary for cell polarity and orientation. It is not known to be a part of a distinct protein complex but its role connects deeply to the modulation of intracellular signaling pathways necessary for embryonic development and tissue morphogenesis.
Pathways
The FUZ protein engages in neural crest cell pathway and planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling pathway. Within PCP it associates with proteins like Dishevelled (DVL) and Prickle (PRICKLE) to direct cell orientation and polarity. In neural crest formation its regulation impacts proper migration and differentiation indicating its linkage to other cellular proteins such as cadherins and integrins that mediate cell-cell communication and adhesion.
