GPATCH1 also known as G-patch domain-containing protein 1 is a protein involved in RNA processing. Its molecular weight is approximately 95 kDa. This protein is found mainly in the nucleus and it shows high expression levels in various tissues including the brain and liver. GPATCH1 contains a conserved glycine-rich domain called the G-patch which is important for its interaction with other proteins involved in RNA metabolism.
Biological function summary

GPATCH1 plays an important role in RNA splicing which is important for the correct maturation of pre-mRNA into mRNA. It cooperates with other proteins in spliceosome complexes ensuring accurate removal of introns and joining of exons. GPATCH1 also interacts with helicases helping to resolve RNA secondary structures during the splicing process. This interaction contributes to maintaining efficiency and fidelity during RNA processing.

Pathways

GPATCH1 is linked to the RNA splicing and mRNA surveillance pathways. It associates with the spliceosome a complex of snRNPs and protein factors to carry out intron excision. GPATCH1 is also related to the UPF1 protein which plays a role in the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay pathway.
