Supplementary info

Biological function summary

GPR1 takes part in inflammatory response and metabolism regulation. It does not appear to form part of a larger protein complex functioning independently in the pathways it influences. GPR1's role in attracting immune cells to sites of inflammation is significant as it interacts with chemokines to mediate leucocyte migration. In cellular metabolism GPR1 helps maintain energy balance by modulating pathways linked to energy and nutrient availability.

Activity summary

GPR1 a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) is an integral membrane protein that plays a role in cellular signaling. Known alternatively as G protein-coupled receptor 1 its mass is about 41 kDa. GPR1 localizes in the cell membrane primarily expressed in tissues like the brain and kidney. Its function involves interaction with specific ligands leading to the activation of G-proteins and the downstream signaling cascade. This makes it an important player in transmitting extracellular signals to the interior of the cell.

Pathways

GPR1 interacts with the MAPK signaling pathway and the chemokine-mediated signal transduction. These pathways involve proteins like ERK1/2 and CCR1 which help transmit signals that affect cellular responses such as growth differentiation or immune cell trafficking. GPR1 influences these pathways through ligand-binding leading to a cascade of intracellular events that impact cell function and communication.

Associated diseases and disorders

GPR1 is associated with inflammation-related diseases and metabolic disorders. For instance its role in inflammation pathways links it to conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It may also contribute to obesity by affecting energy regulation pathways. The protein demonstrates interaction with other receptors like CCR5 in these diseases which facilitates a better understanding of its involvement in pathological states. Researchers are exploring GPR1 as a potential therapeutic target given its role in these disorders.
