GPR139 known also as G protein-coupled receptor 139 is a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). It has an approximate mass of 37 kDa. This receptor mainly expresses in the central nervous system specifically in the thalamus habenula and hypothalamus. It is part of the larger group of products encoded by GPCR genes which play significant roles in signal transduction across cell membranes.
Biological function summary

GPR139 acts as a modulator within the brain's neurochemical network. Although not part of a larger complex it influences neurotransmitter systems by transducing extracellular signals through intramembrane effects affecting physiological processes like mood circadian rhythms and pain perception.
