Activity summary

GPRC5C also known as G protein-coupled receptor family C group 5 member C acts as a cell surface receptor involved in various signaling processes. Weighing approximately 42 kilodaltons (kDa) this receptor is expressed in several human tissues including the lung kidney and liver. GPRC5C belongs to the group of G protein-coupled receptors which are important for mediating the effects of diverse extracellular signals into cellular responses.

Biological function summary

The function of GPRC5C involves interaction with G proteins to transmit signals within cells. The receptor does not operate in isolation but may form part of larger signaling complexes. Through its signaling activities GPRC5C can influence cellular processes such as growth and differentiation. Its expression pattern suggests roles in both normal physiological processes and in responses to environmental changes.

Pathways

Proteins like GPRC5C participate in important processes like cell survival and proliferation. It intersects the MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathway an important signaling cascade for cellular growth responses. In this pathway GPRC5C can interact with proteins such as ERK (extracellular signal-regulated kinase) and other G proteins to modulate cell signaling dynamics affecting how cells respond to external stimuli.

Associated diseases and disorders

Alterations in GPRC5C expression or function link to cancer and inflammatory diseases. Aberrant signaling through GPRC5C can contribute to uncontrolled cell growth characteristic in certain cancers with proteins like ERK playing complementary roles in these processes. Additionally improper GPRC5C activity may influence inflammatory pathways associating it with conditions where immune responses become dysregulated. Understanding GPRC5C's role in disease may offer therapeutic insights and intervention strategies.
