The GPT2 protein also known as Glutamyl-Prolyl-tRNA Synthetase 2 is an enzyme essential for the translation process in protein biosynthesis. It functions by charging tRNA molecules with their respective amino acids specifically glutamic acid and proline. The GPT2 protein has a mass of approximately 170 kDa and is expressed in various tissues including muscles and kidneys. This widespread expression suggests its significant role in maintaining protein synthesis in different cellular environments.
GPT2 enzyme plays an important role in catalyzing the attachment of amino acids to their corresponding tRNA molecules a vital step in ribosomal protein synthesis. As part of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases GPT2 forms a complex with other synthetases to ensure accurate decoding of mRNA during translation.
