Biological function summary
Grancalcin is involved in the regulation of cellular adhesion mechanisms. It does not form part of a larger protein complex but it plays a critical role in integrating calcium signals that facilitate cell function. Additionally grancalcin helps in the reorganization of the cytoskeleton impacting processes like chemotaxis and phagocytosis important for immune response.
Pathways
Grancalcin plays a role in the integrin signaling pathway. It interacts with key proteins in this pathway such as talin and vinculin to mediate cell adhesion and motility. Grancalcin's regulation of calcium signals also ties it to the MAPK signaling pathway which influences various cell functions including proliferation and differentiation.
