ab325867 detects mGluR5 protein by immunofluorescent analysis. Sample : DIV11 rat E18 hippocampal neurons and glial cells were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde at RT for 15 min. Green : mGluR5 stained by ab325867 diluted at 1 : 250. Red : Tau, an axon marker, stained by Tau antibody diluted at 1 : 500. Blue : Fluoroshield with DAPI.

Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors. Signaling activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system and generates a calcium-activated chloride current. Plays an important role in the regulation of synaptic plasticity and the modulation of the neural network activity.
