Notes

ab251015 is the carrier-free version of Anti-GYPB/GPB antibody [EPR15454(B)] ab190351.

Our RabMAb® technology is a patented hybridoma-based technology for making rabbit monoclonal antibodies. For details on our patents, please refer to RabMAb® patents.

This product is a recombinant monoclonal antibody, which offers several advantages including:

  • - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
  • - Improved sensitivity and specificity
  • - Long-term security of supply
  • - Animal-free batch production

For more information, read more on recombinant antibodies.

Our carrier-free antibodies are typically supplied in a PBS-only formulation, purified and free of BSA, sodium azide and glycerol. The carrier-free buffer and high concentration allow for increased conjugation efficiency.

This conjugation-ready format is designed for use with fluorochromes, metal isotopes, oligonucleotides, and enzymes, which makes them ideal for antibody labelling, functional and cell-based assays, flow-based assays (e.g. mass cytometry) and Multiplex Imaging applications.

Use our conjugation kits for antibody conjugates that are ready-to-use in as little as 20 minutes with 1 minute hands-on-time and 100% antibody recovery: available for fluorescent dyes, HRP, biotin and gold.

This product is compatible with the Maxpar® Antibody Labeling Kit from Fluidigm, without the need for antibody preparation. Maxpar® is a trademark of Fluidigm Canada Inc.

Activity summary

Glycophorin B also known as GYPB or GPB is a protein encoded by the GYPB gene. It is an important component of the erythrocyte membrane. Glycophorin B has a molecular mass of approximately 31 kDa. This protein is characterized by its expression mainly on red blood cells contributing to their structural integrity and stability. It is involved in the MNS blood group system functioning alongside Glycophorin A and plays a role in determining blood group antigens.

Biological function summary

Glycophorin B is integral to the red blood cell membrane providing a surface for various cellular interactions. Although it does not form part of a larger protein complex Glycophorin B its function complements that of Glycophorin A. This interaction helps stabilize the structural framework of erythrocytes allowing them to withstand the mechanical stress they encounter within circulation. It interacts with proteins and other cell membrane components which is important for maintaining cell shape and flexibility.

Pathways

Four main words highlight Glycophorin B's influence on cell membrane dynamics. It does not directly engage in metabolic or signaling pathways; nonetheless it is indirectly associated with the structural pathways that govern cell morphology and integrity. In association with Glycophorin A it contributes to the structural pathway of the erythrocyte membrane ensuring the proper shape and flexibility of mature red blood cells. Its interaction with cytoskeletal proteins like spectrin helps maintain cell shape and mechanical properties.

Associated diseases and disorders

Four main words reference Glycophorin B's connection to various hematological conditions. The protein is implicated in blood group incompatibilities and certain hemolytic anemias which can arise from antibody-mediated reactions due to blood transfusions or pregnancy. Its association with the MNS antigen system links it to these disorders as it can serve as a target for alloantibodies. Additionally its alteration or deficiency can associate with altered blood cell properties potentially leading to decreased cell resilience and anemia. Glycophorin B therefore holds clinical significance for transfusion compatibility and hematology.
