Shared alpha chain of the active heterodimeric glycoprotein hormones thyrotropin/thyroid stimulating hormone/TSH, lutropin/luteinizing hormone/LH, follitropin/follicle stimulating hormone/FSH and choriogonadotropin/CG. These hormones bind specific receptors on target cells that in turn activate downstream signaling pathways.

Ab11392 recognises epitope c2 on hCG. It does not recognise free hCG subunits.
This product should be stored undiluted.
Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
The hCG Holo c2 also known as human chorionic gonadotropin is a glycoprotein hormone with a molecular mass of approximately 36.7 kDa. This protein is synthesized and secreted by the placenta specifically by the syncytiotrophoblasts during pregnancy. It consists of two subunits: alpha and beta with the beta subunit being unique to hCG. The expression of hCG Holo c2 plays a pivotal role in the early stages of pregnancy by maintaining the corpus luteum and facilitating progesterone production.
HCG Holo c2 stimulates hormonal support during pregnancy. It works as part of a complex multi-hormonal system where it binds to the LH/CG receptor on the corpus luteum. This binding ensures the production of progesterone sustaining the uterine lining for embryo implantation and preventing menstruation. The action of hCG mimics that of luteinizing hormone (LH) although its prolonged action makes it particularly effective during pregnancy.
Four critical words accompany hCG Holo c2's involvement in reproductive regulation. It actively participates in the reproductive hormone signaling pathway interacting with the LH/CG receptor which is shared with luteinizing hormone. It is also important in the cyclic AMP-dependent signaling pathway connected through its action on adenylate cyclase which elevates cyclic AMP levels upon receptor binding. These pathways highlight its association with proteins like progesterone.
Four related aspects include abnormal levels of hCG Holo c2. Elevated levels may indicate gestational trophoblastic disease such as hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma. Also abnormal production or expression of hCG plays a role in certain types of testicular cancer. Proteins such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and placental alkaline phosphatase in combination with hCG serve as biomarkers for these conditions and manage patient monitoring and treatment planning.
