Specificity

This antibody stains the cytoplasm of antigen-positive liver cells in patients with Type B viral hepatitis. This antibody reacts with the 'a' determinant present on the HBsAg subtypes ayw1, ayw2, ayw3, ayw4, ayr, adw2, adw4 and adr. It does not react with normal tissues.

The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen also known as HBsAg is a protein associated with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It has a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa. HBsAg expresses itself on the surface of HBV particles and infected liver cells. The protein exists in various forms including spherical and filamentous particles.
