'HEY2' also known as 'heart and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 2' or simply 'HEY’ or 'heytwo' is a transcription factor from the hairy and enhancer of split (HES) family. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 37 kDa. It plays a significant role in the regulation of gene expression by binding to specific sequences in DNA. 'HEY2' gets expressed in different tissues particularly in heart vascular and neural crest-derived cells. Its expression appears during various stages of development and remains present in certain adult tissues underlining its continuing importance in cellular function.
