Biological function summary
HHLA3 functions in immune modulation and may inhibit T-cell responses. Researchers have yet to confirm its participation in protein complexes but interactions with other B7 family proteins suggest a potential role. These interactions possibly regulate immune checkpoints which control immune response strength and are important for preventing autoimmunity and maintaining self-tolerance.
Pathways
Researchers find HHLA3 relevant to the immune checkpoint pathways and T-cell receptor signaling. Through these pathways HHLA3 might influence the activation and inhibition of T-cells. It potentially cooperate with other immune checkpoints like PD-L1 and CTLA-4 involving itself in the modulation of the immune responses and determining the immune system's balance between activation and inhibition.
