The Homeobox protein cut-like 2 also known as CDP CUX2 or Clox functions as a transcription factor and plays a critical role in regulating gene expression. Mechanically it binds to specific DNA sequences to influence the transcription of target genes. CUX2 has a molecular mass of approximately 150 kDa. Researchers observe its expression in the brain particularly in developing neocortex as well as the adult testis and lymph nodes.
Biological function summary

Homeobox protein cut-like 2 is involved in the development of the nervous system and the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. It is not part of a larger complex but interacts with other transcription factors to modulate these processes. The protein's involvement is significant in neural development impacting neurogenesis and neural patterning. It coordinates with DNA repair pathways as well.

Homeobox protein cut-like 2 integrates into neural developmental pathways and cell cycle regulation. In neural development it interacts with other factors like NEUROD1 to influence neuronal differentiation. In cell cycle control it participates in pathways such as the cell proliferation pathway interacting with proteins like p27Kip1 to regulate cell cycle progression and ensure proper cell growth.

Homeobox protein cut-like 2 has an association with neurodevelopmental disorders and cancer.
