Biological function summary
ID3 plays a significant role in cellular growth and differentiation. It functions as part of a regulatory complex that inhibits the binding of other HLH proteins to E-box sequences on DNA modulating gene expression patterns. This modulation is vital during embryogenesis and adult tissue homeostasis by controlling the balance between cell proliferation and differentiation. The influence of ID3 extends to its involvement in neural development and immune cell maturation.
Pathways
ID3 integrates into the BMP signaling pathway and is closely connected with the Notch signaling pathway. Within these pathways it acts by influencing cellular decisions of differentiation and proliferation. ID3 interacts with E-proteins such as E12 and E47 negatively regulating their transcriptional activity. This regulation affects cell fate outcomes emphasizing ID3's versatile role in diverse biological settings.
