Supplementary information

Interferon-related developmental regulator 1 (IFRD1) also known as PC4 is involved in transcription regulation and cellular differentiation. It is a nuclear protein with a mass of approximately 48 kDa. IFRD1 is expressed in various tissue types including muscle lung and the immune system among others. As a transcriptional co-regulator it modulates the activity of several transcription factors through interactions with other proteins affecting gene expression patterns.
Biological function summary

IFRD1 regulates immune response and cellular differentiation processes. It functions as part of the transcriptional regulation complex influencing genes involved in tissue regeneration and repair. In the immune system IFRD1 modulates macrophage activation and influences neutrophil survival. The involvement in these biological processes indicates its important role in both normal physiological functions and response to injury or inflammation.

Pathways

IFRD1 significantly contributes to the NF-kB signaling and JAK/STAT pathways. In these pathways it interacts with key regulatory proteins to influence transcriptional outcomes. The NF-kB pathway for instance involves interactions with transcription factors that control inflammation and immune responses. Meanwhile the JAK/STAT pathway important for cytokine signaling sees IFRD1 engaging with STAT proteins. Through these pathways IFRD1 plays a role in regulating cellular responses to external stimuli.

IFRD1 associates with cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Research links IFRD1 with modulation of inflammation where improper regulation can exacerbate respiratory conditions as observed in CF. In COPD impaired IFRD1 function may lead to increased inflammation and deteriorated lung function. Relationships with other proteins such as the CFTR gene product in cystic fibrosis highlight IFRD1's potential role in the pathophysiology of these diseases offering insights into possible therapeutic interventions.

Target data

Could play a role in regulating gene activity in the proliferative and/or differentiative pathways induced by NGF. May be an autocrine factor that attenuates or amplifies the initial ligand-induced signal (By similarity).
