Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

Interleukin 9 receptor (IL-9R) also known as CD129 is a transmembrane protein that belongs to the cytokine receptor family. It weighs approximately 54 kDa. IL-9R is expressed on various cell types including T cells B cells mast cells and certain epithelial cells. This receptor primarily binds to interleukin 9 (IL-9) and forms a heterodimer with the common gamma chain a component shared with other interleukin receptors.
Biological function summary

IL-9R plays essential roles in immune system signaling and regulation. As part of a receptor complex it activates downstream signaling pathways upon IL-9 binding influencing the immune responses such as cell survival proliferation and differentiation. IL-9R is also known to modulate allergic inflammation and has effects on both innate and adaptive immune responses.

Pathways

Research indicates that IL-9R is a participant in the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. This pathway includes janus kinase 1 (JAK1) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) both important for transmitting signals from IL-9 to exert cellular effects. IL-9R also connects to pathways involving other immune-modulating interleukins suggesting its broad role in immune regulation.

IL-9R holds a significant relationship with asthma and allergic diseases. It plays a role in promoting inflammatory responses in the airways related to conditions like asthma. Moreover IL-9R has connections with IL-13 in the context of allergic inflammation and this interaction may amplify disease pathology. Understanding the dynamics of IL-9R could offer insights into therapeutic targets for managing such immune-related disorders.
