Supplementary information

Interleukin-Like Peptide 3 (ILP3) sometimes known as Insulin-Like Peptide 3 is a peptide hormone involved in metabolic regulation. ILP3 has a molecular mass of approximately 12 kDa. It is expressed mainly in the Leydig cells of the testes and ovaries. This expression pattern suggests a role in reproductive functions. ILP3 is also present in various other tissues indicating a wider range of physiological effects.
Biological function summary

ILP3 functions in growth and metabolic signaling. It does not form part of a larger protein complex but interacts with receptors like INSR and IGF1R. These interactions influence cellular proliferation and glucose metabolism. Its activities highlight important roles in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and reproductive processes affecting cell growth and differentiation.

Pathways

ILP3 is active in insulin signaling and growth factor pathways. It shares functional relationships with insulin receptor (INSR) and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R). These pathways mediate important metabolic and growth processes aligning ILP3's function with that of other insulin-like peptides. Consequently ILP3 contributes to the regulation of key cellular activities concerning energy balance and growth.

ILP3 relates to metabolic syndrome and reproductive health issues. Its role in insulin signaling connects it to conditions like Type 2 diabetes. Altered ILP3 expression or function might contribute to these metabolic disorders. Furthermore its importance in reproductive processes links it with fertility-related conditions interacting with proteins such as IGF1 and INSR within these contexts.
