INSC also known as Inscuteable homolog is a protein encoded by the INSC gene. This protein has a molecular weight of approximately 58 kDa. INSC plays a mechanical role in the asymmetric division of cells. It is mainly expressed in the neural tissues where it influences neural differentiation by orienting the mitotic spindle. INSC acts as a scaffold protein and integrates various cellular components important for orienting asymmetric cell division.
Biological function summary

INSC interacts with partner proteins to influence important processes in the neural system. It forms part of a complex that includes Par3 and aPKC which are essential for cellular polarity mechanisms. INSC's role in neural progenitor cells impacts how these cells divide and differentiate affecting brain development.
