Intersectin 1 also known as ITS1 or intersectin is a multifunctional adaptor protein with a known mass of approximately 180 kDa. It plays a role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis by acting as a scaffold for the organization of various proteins involved in the process. Intersectin 1 is predominantly expressed in the brain but can also be found in other tissues like the heart and kidney. The presence of multiple SH3 domains and DH-PH domains facilitates its interaction with other proteins making it important for synaptic vesicle recycling.

Adapter protein that provides a link between the endocytic membrane traffic and the actin assembly machinery (PubMed : 10064583). Acts as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for CDC42, and thereby stimulates actin nucleation mediated by WASL and the ARP2/3 complex (By similarity).
