Biological function summary
IQ motif containing B1 plays an important role in the ciliary transition zone which is an important component in cilia formation and function. This protein is part of a protein complex known as the nephronophthisis module where it collaborates with other proteins to maintain ciliary structural integrity. Defects or mutations in IQCB1 may disrupt this module highlighting its significance in normal cellular operations.
Pathways
The IQ motif containing B1 is involved in the ciliogenesis and cilia function pathways. In these pathways it interacts with proteins such as NPHP6 (also known as CEP290) to regulate ciliary assembly and ensure proper signal transduction. IQCB1's function is essential for the proper maintenance of these pathways which are critical for sensory perception and cellular communication.
