Biological function summary
Cadherin-6 is involved in the dynamic regulation of tissue morphogenesis and neural development. It interacts with intracellular catenins to form a cadherin-catenin complex which links to the actin cytoskeleton. This complex is essential for transmitting mechanical signals and maintaining cellular structure. CDH6 plays a critical role in branching morphogenesis and neuronal connectivity aiding in the formation of organized tissue architecture and neural networks.
Pathways
Cadherin-6 is a component of the Wnt signaling pathway which influences cell fate determination and patterning. CDH6 interacts with related proteins like beta-catenin facilitating the transduction of signals within the Wnt pathway. Additionally it is part of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) pathway where it influences cell migration and differentiation by interacting with growth factor receptors and downstream signaling molecules.
