Product details

Preliminary experiments gave an approx 50kDa band in Human Ovary lysates after 0.5 μg/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 26.9kDa according to NP_002765.1. The 50kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Supplementary information

Kallikrein 6 also known as KLK6 is a serine protease with notable enzymatic properties. This protein part of the kallikrein family weighs approximately 25 kDa and exhibits chymotrypsin-like activity. KLK6 is highly expressed in the central nervous system and various body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid and milk. Due to this distribution KLK6 may play roles in neurological and physiological processes.
Biological function summary

KLK6 participates in the degradation of extracellular matrix components. It functions within complex proteolytic cascades facilitating tissue remodeling and repair. Additionally KLK6 interacts with other kallikreins like kallikrein 3 showing intricate regulation within the kallikrein-related peptidase network. This interplay points toward its importance in modulating extracellular environment and cellular interactions.

Pathways

KLK6 engages in the neurogenic and inflammatory response pathways. It ties into MAPK signaling influencing processes such as cell proliferation and apoptosis. Through these pathways KLK6 associates with proteins like MMPs which modulate extracellular matrix dynamics. Its presence in these pathways positions KLK6 as a significant regulatory protein during cellular homeostasis and stress responses.

KLK6 correlates with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis. Altered expression and activity levels of KLK6 have implications for disease progression and pathology. In Alzheimer's KLK6 may influence amyloid-beta processing connecting with proteins like APP. In multiple sclerosis KLK6 affects demyelination processes showing potential interactions with myelin-associated proteins. Understanding these relationships can guide therapeutic strategies targeting KLK6-related pathways.

Target data

Serine protease which exhibits a preference for Arg over Lys in the substrate P1 position and for Ser or Pro in the P2 position. Shows activity against amyloid precursor protein, myelin basic protein, gelatin, casein and extracellular matrix proteins such as fibronectin, laminin, vitronectin and collagen. Degrades alpha-synuclein and prevents its polymerization, indicating that it may be involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease and other synucleinopathies. May be involved in regulation of axon outgrowth following spinal cord injury. Tumor cells treated with a neutralizing KLK6 antibody migrate less than control cells, suggesting a role in invasion and metastasis.
