Biological function summary
This protein interacts within the microenvironment of hair follicles to influence hair fiber integrity and rigidity. KRTAP11-1 does not operate within a larger protein complex but its interactions with various keratin types are essential for hair formation and mechanical resilience. Through these interactions it helps control the physicochemical properties of hair impacting characteristics like elasticity and resistance to damage.
Pathways
Research has shown that this protein links to the specialized pathway of hair keratinization which is part of the general epidermis development process. KRTAP11-1 works alongside keratin proteins many of which belong to the type I and type II keratins in this pathway. This interaction supports the orderly assembly and stabilization of the keratin filament network that gives hair its structural integrity.
