Biological function summary
L2/HNK-1 Carbohydrate participates in neural cell recognition and migration assisting in neurodevelopmental processes. It is not part of a single complex; instead it interacts with multiple proteins and cell surface molecules contributing to signal transduction involved in synaptic stabilization and regeneration. This carbohydrate also plays a role in modulating immune cell activities and is considered important in identifying specific subpopulations of T and NK cells.
Pathways
L2/HNK-1 Carbohydrate belongs to key processes such as the cell adhesion and signal transduction pathways. It shares interactions with proteins involved in the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) pathway facilitating synaptic plasticity and neuronal connectivity. Its involvement in immune pathways connects it to lectin proteins influencing T cell activation and immune response modulation.
