Notes

This product is a recombinant monoclonal antibody, which offers several advantages including:

  • - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
  • - Improved sensitivity and specificity
  • - Long-term security of supply
  • - Animal-free batch production

For more information, read more on recombinant antibodies.

Our carrier-free antibodies are typically supplied in a PBS-only formulation, purified and free of BSA, sodium azide and glycerol. The carrier-free buffer and high concentration allow for increased conjugation efficiency.

This conjugation-ready format is designed for use with fluorochromes, metal isotopes, oligonucleotides, and enzymes, which makes them ideal for antibody labelling, functional and cell-based assays, flow-based assays (e.g. mass cytometry) and Multiplex Imaging applications.

Use our conjugation kits for antibody conjugates that are ready-to-use in as little as 20 minutes with 1 minute hands-on-time and 100% antibody recovery: available for fluorescent dyes, HRP, biotin and gold.

Activity summary

LASV NP also known as Lassa virus nucleoprotein or NP is a structural protein with a mass of approximately 63 kDa. It plays an important role in the replication cycle of Lassa virus a member of the Arenaviridae family. Expressed primarily in infected host cells NP assists in the formation of viral ribonucleoprotein complexes. This protein encapsidates the viral RNA genome safeguarding it from degradation and interacting with the viral polymerase which is necessary for efficient viral replication and transcription.

Biological function summary

This nucleoprotein serves a multifunctional role in viral propagation and immune evasion. In addition to its RNA-binding properties NP suppresses the host's innate immune responses by interfering with interferon signaling pathways. It accomplishes this by degrading double-stranded RNA thereby preventing activation of the pathway. NP is not known to be part of a larger complex but operates closely with other viral components to enhance viral survival and replication within host cells.

Pathways

LASV NP is implicated importantly in the viral life cycle and immune evasion mechanisms. The interferon signaling pathway is significantly impacted by NP's ability to counteract interferon responses which normally aid in defense against viral infections. NP cooperates with the Lassa virus glycoprotein complex and matrix protein in these pathways coordinating processes that facilitate successful viral replication and assembly while concurrently subverting host immune defenses.

Associated diseases and disorders

LASV NP is closely associated with Lassa fever a severe viral hemorrhagic illness endemic in parts of West Africa. The NP's role in immune system modulation connects it with an increased virulence of the virus therefore contributing to the pathogenesis of Lassa fever. Additionally interactions between NP and the host immune-modulating proteins such as those in the interferon family influence the disease progression and host immune response making it a target of interest for antiviral therapies.

    Western blot - Anti-Lassa virus Nucleoprotein antibody [HL1390] (ab308422)

Non-transfected (–) and transfected (+) 293T whole cell extracts (30 μg) were separated by 7.5% SDS-PAGE, and the membrane was blotted with Lassa virus Nucleoprotein antibody [HL1390] (ab308422) diluted at 1:5000. The HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG antibody was used to detect the primary antibody.
