Product details

What are recombinant multiclonals?
Recombinant multiclonals are a mixture of recombinant antibodies co-expressed from a library of heavy and light chains. They offer several advantages including:

  • - The sensitivity of polyclonal antibodies by recognising multiple epitopes
  • - High batch-to-batch consistency and reproducibility
  • - Improved sensitivity and specificity
  • - Long-term security of supply
  • - Animal-free batch production

Supplementary information

LCN1 also known as Lipocalin-1 or tear lipocalin is a secreted protein with a mass of approximately 21 kDa. It primarily localizes in human tears and other secretions including saliva. This protein belongs to the lipocalin family known for their small size and ability to bind hydrophobic molecules. Its key function includes transporting small lipophilic molecules such as fatty acids and retinoids contributing to ocular surface health.
Biological function summary

LCN1 plays an essential role in protecting the eye's surface. It binds and neutralizes bacteria-derived lipopolysaccharides which helps to control microbial growth on the eye surface. LCN1 may interact with other components present in tear film but it does not form a complex with them. The protein participates in transporting molecules across cell membranes and modulating the immune response at ocular and oral sites.

Pathways

LCN1 has a significant role in the defense mechanisms of the tear film. It engages in the immune response pathway helping to maintain homeostasis in the ocular surface microenvironment. Its binding capabilities are related to fatty acid transport pathways. LCN1 indirectly interacts with proteins related to lipid transport such as albumin due to its role in managing lipid interactions at epithelial surfaces.

LCN1 shows a connection to dry eye syndrome a condition resulting from insufficient tear production or quality leading to inflammation and damage to the eye surface. The protein also relates to Sjögren’s syndrome an autoimmune disorder affecting moisture-producing glands. These associations arise because LCN1's deficiency or dysfunction can contribute to the pathology observed in these disorders alongside proteins like lactoferrin which is also important in tear film stability and ocular health.

Target data

Could play a role in taste reception. Could be necessary for the concentration and delivery of sapid molecules in the gustatory system. Can bind various ligands, with chemical structures ranging from lipids and retinoids to the macrocyclic antibiotic rifampicin and even to microbial siderophores. Exhibits an extremely wide ligand pocket.
