Supplementary info

Biological function summary

LIAT1 participates in the fine-tuning of immune cell activity. It forms part of a receptor complex that transmits signals which can either activate or inhibit immune cell responses. These interactions contribute to the regulation of immune tolerance and the prevention of autoimmune attacks on healthy tissue. By modulating the immune system LIAT1 helps maintain balance between necessary defense mechanisms and overactivity that can cause harm.

Activity summary

LIAT1 also known as Leukocyte Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor 1 is a protein weighing approximately 45 kDa. LIAT1 plays a role in immune regulation and signal transduction. Researchers have found it expressed on the surface of various immune cells including B cells T cells and natural killer cells. The protein functions mechanically by interacting with other receptor proteins on cell membranes to modulate immune responses.

Pathways

LIAT1 plays an essential role in the immune signaling pathways. It interacts with molecules in the JAK-STAT pathway influencing cytokine signaling and immune cell communication. LIAT1 works closely with proteins such as STAT1 and STAT3 to modulate transcriptional responses to cytokines and growth factors which are vital for effective immune responses. This protein serves as an important junction connecting upstream signals with downstream cellular processes.

Associated diseases and disorders

LIAT1 links to autoimmune diseases and certain types of cancer. Altered LIAT1 expression or function can contribute to disorders like rheumatoid arthritis where the immune system mistakenly targets joint tissues. Additionally in cancers such as lymphoma LIAT1 may alter the immune environment within tumors potentially aiding in tumor survival. Dysregulation involving LIAT1 and proteins like JAK2 and STAT3 highlights its importance in disease contexts providing potential therapeutic targets for intervention.
