Detection of LIMKAIN B1 in Immunoprecipitates of Jurkat whole cell lysates (1 mg for IP, 20% of IP loaded) using ab156699 at 6 µg/mg lysate for IP (Lane 1). For WB detection ab156699 was used at 1 µg/ml. Lane 2 represents control IgG IP. Detection : Chemiluminescence with an exposure time of 30 seconds.

Biological function summary
LIMKAIN B1 affects the production and assembly of ribosome components by associating with the Las1L complex. The protein’s activity is required for the processing of 28S rRNA highlighting its importance in ribosome maturation. This processing step happens in the final stage of ribosome biogenesis and disruptions in LIMKAIN B1 function can lead to the accumulation of unprocessed ribosomal RNA impairing the formation of functional ribosomal units.
Pathways
LIMKAIN B1 has significant roles in the ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation pathways. The protein monitors rRNA processing and ribosome assembly within the nucleolus. LIMKAIN B1 works closely with NOL9 a protein involved in 28S rRNA cleavage to regulate the synthesis of ribosomes. Such coordination ensures that ribosome production matches the overall cellular demand for protein synthesis.
