Biological function summary
LIN37 operates as part of the DREAM complex which is essential for regulating cell cycle-dependent gene expression. The DREAM complex consists of other proteins such as LIN9 LIN52 and RBL1. LIN37 helps repress genes that promote DNA replication and mitosis during the quiescent phase where cells are not actively dividing. By cooperating with other complex members it helps maintain cellular homeostasis and prevent unnecessary cell division.
Pathways
LIN37 and its role in the DREAM complex impact the control of the Rb-E2F pathway. This pathway regulates the transcription of genes required for cell cycle progression. Through the interplay with RBL1 and E2F4 LIN37 contributes to cell cycle exit and entry ensuring the cells only progress to DNA synthesis when necessary. The complex finely tunes cell cycle events to maintain balanced proliferation.
