Supplementary information

LIX1 also known as Limb and CNS Expressed 1 represents a protein with a mass of approximately 18 kDa. It expresses primarily in the central nervous system and limb tissues. This protein exhibits particular importance in developmental processes. Structural studies reveal that LIX1 may play a role in molecular signaling involving interactions with other intracellular proteins to facilitate its function.
Biological function summary

LIX1 supports the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation particularly during early embryonic development. Evidence suggests that it may interact with cellular scaffolding proteins supporting its integration into larger protein complexes. LIX1 ensures the precision of cellular growth and structural development acting as a potential modulator of morphogenetic signals.

Pathways

Studies suggest that LIX1 participates in the Wnt signaling pathway and the Hedgehog signaling pathway. These pathways are fundamental in the regulation of developmental processes such as tissue patterning and cell fate determination. LIX1's involvement with these pathways aligns it closely with other proteins like β-catenin in the Wnt pathway and GLI family proteins in the Hedgehog pathway facilitating finely tuned biological responses.

Research has connected LIX1 with colorectal cancer and limb development disorders. Altered expression or dysfunction of LIX1 may contribute to improper cellular growth regulation thereby affecting these conditions. In the context of limb development disorders LIX1 may work in conjunction with other proteins such as Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) important for the proper formation of limb structures. Understanding LIX1's role in these diseases could help further identify therapeutic targets.
