LSECtin also known as CLEC4G is a C-type lectin-like receptor weighing around 40 kDa. It is expressed mainly on liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) but also noted in lymph node and placenta tissues. As a receptor LSECtin plays an important role in recognizing and binding to specific glycans on pathogens facilitating their capture and subsequent immune response.
LSECtin functions as an important player in immune recognition and clearance of pathogens. It is involved in pathogen binding through interaction with glycans aiding in the modulation of immune responses. LSECtin along with other related receptors like DC-SIGN and CD23 forms part of a complex that influences pathogen recognition. It particularly interacts with viruses like HIV and Ebola impacting how these pathogens are detected and processed by the immune system.
The function of LSECtin integrates into immune system pathways where it influences pathogen clearance. One notable pathway is the pathogen recognition pathway. LSECtin interacts with the liver's immune regulatory network linking with proteins like DC-SIGN that play a role in modulating the immune response. Another pathway it affects is the cell adhesion pathway which involves inflammation regulation.
LSECtin is linked to infections and immune-related liver conditions. In viral infections such as Ebola and HIV LSECtin mediates pathogen capture affecting the body's ability to handle these infections. The receptor's interaction with liver-specific proteins is noted in liver fibrosis where LSECtin and related proteins like CD23 may alter immune function and disease progression. This close relationship highlights the importance of LSECtin in both immune defense and disease pathology.
