MDFIC serves as a negative regulator in muscle cell differentiation by forming a complex with other transcription factors. This complex modulates the transcriptional activity of genes that manage muscle development and regeneration. MDFIC is involved in maintaining the balance between cell proliferation and differentiation ensuring that cells do not differentiate prematurely. This function allows tissues to grow and repair effectively.
Pathways
MDFIC participates in the regulation of myogenesis and signal transduction pathways. It interacts with the MyoD family especially MyoD and myogenin to modulate muscle-specific gene expression. Myogenesis the process of muscle cell formation requires a delicate regulation where MDFIC affects the balance by inhibiting transcription factors' binding affinity. Additionally MDFIC bears functional relevance in pathways involving nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kB) where it shifts cellular responses to external stimuli like stress or inflammation.
