Supplementary information

MIIP also known as Migration and Invasion Inhibitory Protein is a protein with a mass of approximately 47 kDa. It acts mechanically as an important regulator of cellular movement and invasion processes. MIIP expression occurs in various tissues including the brain and reproductive organs. Scientists recognize MIIP for its role in modulating cytoskeletal dynamics and protein interactions that affect cell motility.
Biological function summary

MIIP plays a significant role in inhibiting cell migration and invasion contributing to its function as a tumor suppressor. It interacts with important components of the cytoskeletal network and may work together with other proteins to form complexes that stabilize actin filaments. Through these interactions MIIP helps control cellular structure integrity and movement impacting the invasive potential of cells.

Pathways

MIIP impacts several key signaling pathways. It integrates into the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway which influences cell survival and proliferation. This protein also interacts within the Wnt/β-catenin pathway known for its role in cell growth and development. MIIP's association with these pathways links it to interactions with proteins like AKT and β-catenin creating a regulatory network that balances normal and pathological cell behavior.

MIIP is associated with cancer and its progression. Studies have shown that reduced MIIP expression correlates with increased tumor invasiveness and metastasis particularly in gliomas and breast cancer. In these contexts MIIP interacts with proteins such as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) which aid in tissue invasion. By inhibiting these interactions MIIP exerts a protective effect against tumor progression highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target.
