Biological function summary
MND1 works alongside other proteins to ensure successful meiotic recombination. It often forms a complex with the protein HOP2 which enhances its function. This complex improves the pairing and alignment of homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Through this interaction MND1 influences genetic diversity by allowing the exchange of genetic material between chromosomes a necessary process for the formation of viable gametes.
Pathways
MND1 interacts within genetic recombination pathways that are important for accurate chromosome segregation. It performs important functions in the homologous recombination repair pathway. Specifically the MND1-HOP2 complex works closely with proteins such as RAD51 and DMC1 which are also involved in DNA repair and strand invasion during meiosis. These interactions facilitate the correction of DNA double-strand breaks ensuring stability and integrity of the genetic material.
