Biological function summary
MRAP2 interacts with the melanocortin system which involves energy balance and appetite regulation. It forms a complex with melanocortin receptors especially MC4R and to some extent MC3R influencing signaling pathways that control food intake. This system is fundamental in the regulation of metabolism reflecting the importance of MRAP2 in maintaining energy homeostasis in organisms.
Pathways
MRAP2 operates within the melanocortin pathway interacting closely with the leptin signaling pathway which governs energy expenditure and appetite. MRAP2 supports the function of MC4R which in turn relates to the regulation of adenylyl cyclase activity affecting cAMP levels. MC4R is also involved in the leptin-melanocortin pathway showing how MRAP2 assists in linking energy intake and energy expenditure processes.
