MRPL12 also known as mitochondrial ribosomal protein L12 serves a mechanical function in the mitochondria. MRPL12 is part of the large 39S subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome. The protein has a mass of about 201 kDa and plays a role in protein synthesis by aiding the assembly of ribosomal RNA and proteins. MRPL12 is primarily expressed in tissues with high energy requirements such as the heart liver and skeletal muscle indicating its essential function in energy production processes.
Biological function summary

MRPL12 contributes to mitochondrial ribosome stability and the translation of mitochondrial-encoded proteins. MRPL12 forms interactions within the mitochondrial ribosome complex where it supports ribosomal assembly and function.
