Biological function summary
MRPL30 contributes to mitochondrial protein synthesis as a part of the large subunit in the mitochondrial ribosome complex. This complex differs from cytoplasmic ribosomes due to its unique protein-to-rRNA composition reflecting its specific role within mitochondria. MRPL30's involvement in the formation of the ribosomal subunit supports the production of proteins necessary for oxidative phosphorylation. This synthesis is essential for energy production and normal cellular metabolism.
Pathways
The functioning of MRPL30 integrates into mitochondrial protein synthesis and oxidative phosphorylation pathways. The protein ensures the efficient translation of mitochondrial-encoded genes important for ATP production through oxidative phosphorylation. It interacts with other ribosomal proteins such as MRPL28 and MRPL44 important for the assembly and function of the mitochondrial ribosome and thereby sustaining cellular energy demands.
