Biological function summary
MRPS7 is involved in mitochondrial translation a process critical for cellular respiration and energy production. This protein is part of the mitochondrial ribosomal complex which includes both proteins and rRNA. By playing an active role in assembling and stabilizing the ribosome MRPS7 helps in translating mRNA transcribed from mitochondrial DNA. This translation is necessary for the production of essential components of the electron transport chain which generates ATP.
Pathways
MRPS7 engages in the mitochondrial translation pathway which ensures the synthesis of proteins required for the oxidative phosphorylation pathway. It interacts with other mitochondrial ribosomal proteins like MRPS28 to form a functional ribosome. Through these interactions MRPS7 helps maintain the efficiency and fidelity of mitochondrial protein synthesis directly affecting cellular energy metabolism and homeostasis.
