NAALADL2 also known as N-acetylated alpha-linked acidic dipeptidase-like 2 functions mechanically as a type II transmembrane glycoprotein. It participates in peptide hydrolysis and it is related to the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) family. The protein has an approximate mass of 85 kDa. Researchers have observed its expression in several tissues with a higher presence in the prostate and certain reproductive tissues. The protein also localizes in the epithelial cells where it potentially plays a role in modulating peptide signaling.
Biological function summary

NAALADL2 is involved in controlling levels of N-acetylaspartylglutamate a neuropeptide that functions as a neurotransmitter. Despite its mechanical similarity to PSMA NAALADL2 does not participate in the folate metabolism.
