Biological function summary
NEGR1 contributes to neuronal growth and connectivity. It forms part of the immunoglobulin superfamily which includes proteins involved in the immune response and cell adhesion processes. NEGR1 interacts with cellular membranes through a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor facilitating cell-cell communication and signaling necessary for neural network formation. This interaction allows NEGR1 to be a part of synaptic development and plasticity affecting learning and memory processes.
Pathways
NEGR1 plays a part in neuronal growth pathways and synaptic signaling. These pathways are important for the development and maintenance of neuronal circuits. NEGR1 has connections to the MAPK pathway which oversees cell differentiation and proliferation. It interacts with other synaptic proteins like Neurexins and Neuroligins which are important for synaptic formation and stability underlining its integrative role in neural development.
