NEURL1B also known as neuralized E3 ubiquitin protein ligase 1B functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase. This protein plays a role in tagging other proteins for degradation by the proteasome a process critical for maintaining cellular protein balance. NEURL1B has a molecular mass of approximately 70 kDa and is expressed markedly in neural tissues. It sometimes appears in other tissues but its expression is not as pronounced as in the nervous system.
Biological function summary

The protein acts as a regulator of the Notch signaling pathway which is essential for cell differentiation and proliferation. NEURL1B does not work alone; instead it often operates as a part of a larger protein complex that includes other ligases and substrates. Through this complex formation NEURL1B modifies signal transduction processes influencing various cellular functions.
