Biological function summary
Neurogenic Differentiation 4 functions as a transcription factor regulating gene expression during neural development. It participates in forming transcriptional complexes with other bHLH proteins facilitating neuronal differentiation and proliferation. By binding to E-box sequences in the DNA NEUROD4 influences the transcription of genes important for neuronal identity and precursory cell maturation.
Pathways
The NeuroD4 protein integrates into neurodevelopmental pathways including the Notch signaling and the Wnt signaling pathways. These pathways are pivotal for the control of cell fate decisions and proliferation in the nervous system. NeuroD4 interacts with other proteins within these pathways such as Notch intracellular domain proteins and TCF/LEF transcription factors further influencing the regulation of specific gene sets important for neural development.
