Biological function summary
Neurokinin A influences numerous physiological processes including smooth muscle contraction and glandular secretion. It is not part of a complex but interacts directly with its receptor the neurokinin 2 receptor (NK2R) which is a G protein-coupled receptor. By binding to NK2R neurokinin A triggers various intracellular signaling cascades that affect cell functions such as proliferation migration and contraction. These actions make it an important player in modulating responses related to pain perception stress and inflammation.
Pathways
Neurokinin A participates in the tachykinin pathway which is important for signal transduction and neurotransmission in the nervous system. Within this pathway neurokinin A is closely related to other tachykinins like substance P and neurokinin B sharing cross-talk through their respective receptors. This interaction underlies many physiological responses such as vasodilation bronchoconstriction and modulation of pain and stress responses.
