Biological function summary
NLRP9 participates in the regulation of inflammation and immune responses. It acts as part of the inflammasome complex a multiprotein oligomer responsible for activating inflammatory responses. Though less studied than other inflammasomes like NLRP3 studies suggest NLRP9 interacts with caspase-1 and ASC (apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD) facilitating the processing of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and IL-18. Such interactions emphasize its role in maintaining the balance of immune responses.
Pathways
NLRP9 influences immune pathways by contributing to the regulation of inflammasomes. NLRP9 is notably involved in the inflammatory signaling pathway. This involvement includes interaction with other NLR family proteins such as NLRP3 under certain physiological conditions. Connections to these pathways highlight its role in innate immunity and highlight its importance in preparing the body's defense mechanisms.
