Supplementary information

NOL10 also known as nucleolar protein 10 functions primarily in the nucleolus of the cell playing roles in ribosome biogenesis. NOL10 weighs approximately 73 kDa and is present in different human tissues most expressed in spleen and bone marrow. This protein participates in important cellular processes by interacting with ribosomal RNA precursors during ribosome assembly. Its positioning in the nucleolus hints at a focus on ribosome production.
Biological function summary

NOL10 contributes to ribosomal RNA synthesis and processing. It associates with ribosomal RNA processing complexes ensuring mature ribosomal RNA formation. NOL10 works closely with other nucleolar proteins forming part of a larger pre-ribosomal assembly essential for protein synthesis. By doing this NOL10 indirectly supports translation and cell growth.

Pathways

NOL10 is involved in the ribosome biogenesis and RNA processing pathways. It connects with pathways such as the ribosome synthesis pathway interacting with proteins like fibrillarin to promote production of functional ribosomes. It ensures efficient processing within these pathways linking the initial steps of ribosome creation to later stages of protein synthesis.

NOL10's role in ribosome biogenesis links it to conditions like dyskeratosis congenita and certain cancers. Abnormal expression or mutations in NOL10 can result in disrupted ribosomal function contributing to disease progression. It has a connection with proteins such as dyskerin in dyskeratosis congenita highlighting its role in maintaining normal cellular and tissue function.
