Supplementary information

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

NT5C1A also known as cytosolic 5'-nucleotidase 1A is an enzyme involved in the catabolism of nucleotides. It dephosphorylates nucleoside monophosphates into nucleosides and inorganic phosphate. The molecular mass of NT5C1A is approximately 41 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues with notable presence in muscle tissue and peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
Biological function summary

NT5C1A contributes to the regulation of nucleotide pools in cells impacting DNA and RNA synthesis and degradation processes. It functions independently and does not seem to be a part of a larger complex. Its activity ensures balanced nucleotide levels which is essential for proper cellular function and replication.

Pathways

NT5C1A participates in the purine metabolism pathway by influencing the concentration of nucleosides and nucleotides. It works in coordination with other enzymes such as adenosine deaminase and xanthine oxidase within these metabolic processes. NT5C1A's role is pivotal in maintaining nucleotide homeostasis during cellular proliferation and apoptosis.

NT5C1A has been linked to sporadic inclusion body myositis a muscle disorder characterized by muscle inflammation and weakening. Some studies suggest a connection with autoimmune diseases; however research is still evolving in this area. In these conditions NT5C1A interacts with proteins involved in immune response modulation hinting at its role in disease development.

Target data

Catalyzes the hydrolysis of ribonucleotide and deoxyribonucleotide monophosphates, releasing inorganic phosphate and the corresponding nucleoside (PubMed : 11133996, PubMed : 34814800, PubMed : 7599155, PubMed : 8967393). AMP is the major substrate but can also hydrolyze dCMP and IMP (PubMed : 11133996, PubMed : 34814800, PubMed : 7599155, PubMed : 8967393).
