NUP43 also known as nucleoporin 43 is an important component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). Weighing approximately 43 kDa this protein is expressed in the nuclear envelope of eukaryotic cells. NUP43 is part of the Y-complex which plays a mechanical role in mediating the transport of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Its presence in the nuclear pore structure facilitates important cellular functions including regulation and signaling.
The organization and function of the nuclear pore complex involve NUP43 integration. It forms part of a larger supramolecular structure assisting in functions alongside other nucleoporins. Inside the NPC NUP43 contributes to nuclear-cytoplasmic transport by interacting with transport receptors and cargo molecules. This interaction regulates the entry and exit of macromolecules maintaining cellular homeostasis and gene expression processes.
NUP43 integrates cellular pathways related to nucleocytoplasmic transport and mRNA processing.
